I’m baaaack. Hello friends! The Write at Home blog is back, but with a fresh look and new website. After an almost 3 year hiatus, I started to find the itch to come to you through writing. So in true Jessica form I made things much more complicated. I bought a domain, a WordPress theme, and stumbled my way here, to my first post. I’ve made a commitment and a few goals, so here we go! If you see glitches or if something just isn’t working right, forgive me. We will get through this together.
It seems only right that I begin my new blog with a furniture makeover. Over the past three years if there’s not a baby in my arms (or sometimes even if there is) or a spatula, you will probably find me with a paintbrush and a piece of forlorn furniture. Over at my Mom’s store, Flyaway we “reimagine” pieces for display + sell. It keeps the store looking fresh and fun and provides our customers with one of a kind pieces for their home.
At our own home I’m constantly painting something because it’s what the budget allows and plays into my instant gratification desires when it comes to projects. It has been a great creative outlet that I can do wherever the kids are playing and it doesn’t really matter how loud they get…unlike writing.
This past September for my 29th birthday I asked for a new bed frame. I’ve always loved iron beds, their clean, classic, and timeless look appeals to my eclectic style. They go with everything. When we set the bed up the old nightstand was simply too large. The bedroom door would not shut.
Thankfully for me, my mother-in-law knows about my furniture hoarding tendencies and had just handed this little table down to me and it was the same height as my other nightstand. I loved the lines of this piece and it was solid wood-they just don’t make things like they used to! I custom mixed (ahem mixed putty + casement so I would have enough paint) a creamy color from my collection of fusion mineral paint (click here to see where I order my paint) for both tables and after sanding, staining, and adding a new pull to the drawer I had a mini bedroom makeover!
The new table has been a great addition. And this makeover was free. My favorite price! We’ve lived in this fixer for three years and if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that you never, ever underestimate the power of paint.
