Hi Guys! Here with another edition in the Craftsman Home Tour. Today we are going to be looking at our bedroom.
Sitting right off the living room, is our bedroom. You can enter in through French doors from the living room or through it’s own door from the hall, creating another unique feature of our 1920s craftsman. So full of character and charm.
The French doors to enter, while unusual, allow for so much extra light to flood this room. The kids also enjoy the dual entrances, it creates a great racetrack as they can literally run circles through our home. It’s loud around here. Always.
The rooms in our home are not expansive by any means. However, they do have a functionality that isn’t found in many new or remodeled homes today.
It’s often said that old homes lack storage and I know this can be true in many cases. Our home though was so thoughtfully designed. We rarely find ourselves lacking for a place to put something.
These built ins serve as my main dresser. Well built and beautiful, it’s these details that provide form and functionality to our home. My morning devotions are often done in this nook.
But before we get too into the tour lets take a look at the before.
Oye, so much wallpaper. Shades that were literally crumbling. But the good stuff was there. The woodwork. Solid smooth plaster under the wallpaper, wood floors. We just had to uncover.
It really is like night and day.
As far as decor I’ve tried to keep it really simple and neutral. My black iron bed was a birthday gift from my husband and kids. It seemed to make the room feel more complete.
I decided on Roman Shades from JcPennys to block out light, but they still add softness to the room.
The bedding is a mix of Target, West Elm, and Jessica DIY.
I’ve kept the main pieces neutral so that I am able to easily switch out my bedding or pillows.
The lamp is a thrift store find and the wreath above the bed is from a Nebraska artisan. Winstons Prairie Wreaths.
In this room, we again peeled so much wallpaper, patched cracked plaster. Replaced lighting with a ceiling fan. We painted the walls Shady Acres by Valspar to create a light yet cozy room. Refinishing floors was another big job and reconfiguring the small walk-in closet to work for us completed this room.
Our dresser is Jerrel’s from college. Bought for $15 at a garage sale I finally worked up the nerve to paint it 3 years ago. Thus beginning my love of painting furniture. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, never underestimate the power of paint.
I would like to find something antique to replace it, but for now, it’s sturdy and provides great storage.
Yes, the third baby is missing on the wall. Her photo has been ordered and I’m currently looking for frames. Soon, they all will be up there.
I love displaying their newborn photos in our room. They aren’t in the newborn phase for long, and sometimes those memories are a bit hazy. Having these peaceful, fresh photos reminds us of how sweetly simple they were.
And there you have it. Our Master Bedroom. We find this room relaxing and peaceful. It’s the one room that I don’t allow toys in and I try hard to keep it tidy. It’s calming to me when I look in and see a tidy room among our sometime chaotic life.
Thanks for stopping by!
