Hey there! Today I’m coming at you with the easiest DIY project I’ve ever done. Really! I think it has officially earned that title.
Remember a while back I took you through our basement project?
Well we’ve made quite a bit of progress and it’s almost ready for a full reveal. But first I wanted to share with you one of the little DIY’s I did to make the space feel more finished.

We opted to put a vintage door on a barn door style slider to save money and space in the area. This door was one just hanging out in my garage, waiting for a project. I loved that it had windows, so as much natural light as possible could still get into the area. But I didn’t love seeing into our new official storage room…it kinda defeated the purpose of building the wall and putting in a door.
I knew we could buy products to frost glass but I stumbled upon a little Pinterest ditty about frosting glass with contact paper and I decided to try it! I had nothing to lose. I had some contact paper from a school project so I had to buy nothing for this DIY. Here we go!
For this project all you need is some clear contact paper, water in a spray bottle, tape measure, scissors, X-acto knife, and a scraper of some kind. I used my Pampered Chef Pan Scraper.
Measure the glass panels you are wanting to “frost” and add 1/2 inch.
Note: Measure twice or three times. Cut once.
Next, dry fit the piece to the glass to make sure you’ve got them the right size.
Spray your window with your water. The water enables you to easily remove or reposition your contact paper while applying.
Peel back the top edge of your contact paper and apply to the window. Use your scraper to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles as you go. Slowly removing the backing as you work your way down the glass.
When you’ve come to the bottom of the glass remove the last of the contact paper and smooth it out with the scraper.
Trim your edges clean with the X-acto knife and Ta-da!
Your window will look like this when you have finished but never fear! As the water dries the streaks will disappear and you will be left with perfectly “frosted” glass. With none of the mess.
Here’s what the door looks like today. It lets the light filter in, but hides the storage room. Just what we needed.
Thanks for stopping by!
