Hey there! Happy New Year!
Come January I seem to find my inspiration and creativity in full force. I start needing a project as soon as the Christmas decor comes down. Which is working out well this year. Since my husband bought us a whole other house to play in.
Trust me, that sounds more extravagant than it is.
We’ve done as much outside on the flip house as possible for the weather, so now we move to the inside!
Trust me, that sound more extravagant than it is.
So after months of pinning and planning and saving to this wish list and that, it became time to start taking from the Pinterest boards and making mood boards.
Trust me, that sound more extravagant than it is.
Mood boards are great for making your vision come to life. I love that I can put the elements I have collected together and seeing if they actually work together. I used canva.com to create the board in a poster size.
So I started with the bathroom. Because I’m dreaming of not having to run home overtime sometime has to go No. 1…and No. 2. Its a lot friends. Our time productivity is really sucking because of this basic need.
Before. I hardly remember!
I was a little nervous about putting together this first mood board because, honestly? I’m not a designer. I just a gal, who likes decorating her home, watching HGTV, and old homes. I don’t know if I’m really cut out for this. But. Here we are. Gotta figure it out now.
Before. Laundry area.
I needed to do this because analysis paralysis was kicking in. It was time to bite the bullet and make some decisions. I was swimming in a sea of ideas and I needed to collect the ones that really spoke to me all in one place.
My overall vision for Donna is fun, fresh, a little boho, with a bow tie(my nod to victorian style).
Donna is a folk victorian cottage, built in the early 1900s. We really want to honor the details of the original home while making it functional for todays lifestyles. The home has gorgeous moulding, but the bathroom is a relatively blank slate. Because of it’s current state, it was a little hard to visualize what things would look like. Even for someone like me, with a wild imagination.
So I started with the largest surface. The floor. I was looking for a bit of a statement in this room. Since the rest will be wood flooring I thought we could be adventurous in the bathroom.
Here we are!
We found this beautiful tile for an incredible price at Home Depot. You can find this type of cement patterned tile in old homes sometimes but I was worried it could be seen as trendy and cold with the black and white bold pattern. So we decided to soften it with the beadboard, which will tie in the original beadboard cabinet in the kitchen. Painted a soft, warm white it will be true to the feel of the old home.
The sink is a find from facebook marketplace. All the lighting and hardware is all from Amazon. Unless I can find vintage fixtures and hardware when we make a road trip in a few weeks.
We plan to use an unfinished pantry cabinet as a bathroom builtin for towels, a hamper, etc. We also plan to add in some open shelving in the laundry area.
I found an antique mirror at an antique market this summer that I plan to refinish to put over the vintage sink.
So there you have it! The design plan for the bathroom. Making mood boards has become a new hobby of mine! I think I’ll work on the Bedrooms next. They should be pretty straightforward and after working on the bathroom for a couple days I’m looking for a reprieve.
What do you think? Would you do laundry here? Would you take a nice long soak here?
Thanks for stopping by!
