Hey there! So the Flip House, Donna is done! I still can’t quite believe thats true. However, I’m so thankful it is! We’ve been out of the house for about 3 weeks now, and we’ve been slowly getting back to normal life.
We went ahead and staged the house and held an open house even though we had buyers. It was so nice to open the house up, show everyone just what we’ve been up to and have some good conversation and community.
Jerrel has coined the phrase “It doesn’t need to be new.” With this home and we really do feel that way. Because while the house feels new and it certainly smells new, there is so much good old stuff here. Stuff that you can’t buy-or can’t afford to buy anymore. We feel passionate about preserving and restoring this kind of home history. So let’s take a little home tour of Donna- the flip house.
Front Exterior
The trim work got a nice coat of white paint and the brick a lime wash treatment. New gutters and windows were installed. New landscaping and a tree. We added tile to the front of the front steps and a new porch light, house numbers, and fresh door color. It doesn’t show on this photo but the porch ceiling is painted a light blue as well.

The door color is called Stone Ground by Valspar.
Living Room
Welcome to Donna! One of my favorite things about this house is the sight lines from room to room. I’m not a ride or die open concept person. But this home has that feel without being too open. There are still walls and rooms, but it feels open and airy. From the front door you can see the back door, so I had to keep my colors and design choices very tight and cohesive.
In the living room we hung new sheetrock on the ceiling, peeled the wallpaper from the walls and patched and restored the plaster. We ripped up the carpet to expose the beautiful 120 year old yellow pine flooring. Jerrel lovingly refinished the floors. We painted the trim, ceiling, and walls. New electrical was put throughout the home as well as new lighting.

First Bedroom
This room got a fresh coat of paint on the ceiling, trim, doors, and walls. Floors refinished and we added a wall to the closet. The bedroom closets were conjoining, we decided it made sense to close them off. We added a new old door to the closet.

The floors were finished with a product called Bona. It sealed the flooring and barely whitewashed it so it didn’t turn yellow when poly-ed. The product cost a bit more but I’m so glad we did it. They are exactly what I had in my head. I love them. A lot.
Dining Room
This room basically had the same prescription as the living room. Refinish flooring, drywall ceiling, restore plaster, paint, paint, paint. New lighting. Done. If only it went that fast!

Second Bedroom
This room needed new texture on the walls. It has some strange finish I talked about in one of the update posts. So Jerrel skim coated the walls and sanded them smooth to match the rest of the house. Since we were doing things to the walls in the room I opted to do a statement wall with some bead board. I also opted to paint the trim a different color in this room. I carried the color onto the statement wall and all the interior doors, tying the entire house together. Painting the trim a color like this is historically accurate (I’m pretty sure the trim in this house has been stained, pink, taupe, and white.) but it’s also currently on trend. Playing with a trend like this is fun and super simple to remove. It’s just paint! Personally, I love how it turned out!

This bedroom: Smooth out walls and ceiling, paint, paint, paint, refinished flooring, new lighting, beadboard wall.

Kitchen
Kitchen prescription: Take down wall between kitchen and bathroom, New sheetrock, new windows, new electrical, new plumbing, tile, trim work, new old flooring, expose brick, lighting, cabinetry, countertops, paint pantry.

Whew. This room. What a difference. A breath of fresh air. I love how clean, cozy, and airy this kitchen is. I love seeing the backsplash wrap it’s way around the countertop and up onto the wall.

That pantry cabinet, can you even?! It turned out so gorgeous.

Bathroom
We created this bathroom in what was the 3rd bedroom. The bedroom had laundry already located in the closet and so it just seemed to make sense to enlarge the kitchen and bathroom by claiming this room as the bathroom.
We put bead-board and trim on the walls and added a tub/shower insert. The sink, mirror, built-in, and cabinetry were all vintage finds. The floor tile really elevates the style in this room and I love what the pop of color does for the black and white color scheme.

Finally the back porch. This room gave off all kinds of creepy vibes. But now it is all about relaxing and enjoying time outside. With the boards taken off the open areas, and screens added it’s such a great place to sit. A fresh coat of paint on the house, bead board, and flooring. New cute lighting and little makeover only took us about 2 days!
So that’s the finished product. I do hope to get a little side-by-side before and after blog post up soon. I’ll also do a post with all the sources and links possibly for our Donna finds.
Thanks for stopping by!
