Hey! Thought it was time to do a quick round up of what we’ve been up to at the flip house! It’s been busy and productive! Here we go!
A couple weeks ago we came to a point that I could start coming with the kids alone and doing projects. Navigating school time, house work, and now Donna projects has been challenging but we are making it happen! We usually pack a lunch after school and head over to the Flip. The kids eat while I get to work. We’ve been accomplishing little bits this way!
All the ceilings, trim, and walls are painted. I will say this til the end of my days, NEVER underestimate the power of paint. If you can do one thing in your home, paint. Ok, also clean it. But THEN, paint it! .
We went with Gauzy White by Valspar on the trim work. White Dove by Benjamin Moore on all the walls.
We’ve also got the beadboard on the walls in the bathroom and tile down. The biggest accomplishment in this room though is that we have a functioning toilet! I cannot sing the praises of our Plumber (my brother-in-law) enough. Seriously, having that toilet has made this SO much easier with three little ones along for the work.
I found this tile at Home Depot and I just adore it. It brings such a statement and style to this room. And Jerrel’s tile skills are perfect. It looks amazing.
Speaking of flooring, we’ve hit a whole new level of restoration with our wood flooring solution. A friend of ours suggested we ask the owner of an abandoned home to see if the woodwork and flooring from the house could be salvaged. So, we did and guess what, it could! Jerrel spent one day taking out some beautiful trim work for the kitchen and 3 rooms worth of pine flooring. Perfect for patching our floor furnace areas, and replacing some rough boards. But that’s not all, we were able to get enough salvaged flooring to lay the entire kitchen floor!
We love the idea of saving floors that were going to be lost. Added bonus is that they were in perfect condition and found locally!
Patching areas like this requires some skill and a lot of patience. Jerrel feathers or scabs boards in so when the project is complete, you won’t even know we patched a pieces in.
We have loved getting the kids involved in the process whenever possible. I won’t lie to you, they aren’t always eager to go to the Flip House and it isn’t always easy having them underfoot. But. This is the season we are in. They know we have to finish. More times than not, they find a way to get involved and we hope they walk away with a few little skills, a bit of confidence, character built, and some knowledge.
See what I mean about feathering the boards in? Sanded down and sealed, these floors are going to be perfectly perfect for 120ish year old floors. And how about those white walls? I’m telling ya, the power of paint people.
In one bedroom I wanted to do a little something different, so I decided on some statement trim. Statement trim is historical and currently trending. I had Behr’s Silver Celadon color matched and its perfectly gray/green. Serene and soothing. It’s the first time, aside from our bold tile and front door, that I’ve injected some fun personality into the Flip House. I am loving the choice and I cannot wait to show you the entire look!
Here’s what’s coming soon:
- Sand Floors (happening today!)
- Stain/Seal Floors
- Finish Painting Bedroom Trim
- Paint Cabinets
- Install Cabinets
- Kitchen Backsplash
- Finishing touches- Bathroom
We still have quite a bit ahead of us. But we can’t help but marvel at how far we’ve come. We are doing it, we are flipping this house.
Thanks for stopping by!
Jess
