A few weeks ago I posted about my favorite home remedy, Elderberry Syrup. Y’all loved it and it struck up such good conversation about health and wellness. Prevention and taking charge of our own health! It was a good few days after I posted that friends, really and truly. I was so encouraged.
Fast forward to today and we are all little on edge aren’t we?
We all want to do something. We feel we should and there are productive things we should do. But while others were out buying TP and hand sanitizer, I was checking out my holistic medicine cabinet to make sure I was stocked, just like I do every Fall.
I talked a lot in my elderberry syrup post about prevention. Building up that immune system is SO important when you want to avoid illness. It’s a keystone in herbal and holistic health. So how do we do that?
There are lots of ways to support the immune system. Getting enough sleep, avoiding sugar, limiting stress, eating a well balanced healthy diet- including fermented foods, bone broth, and whole fats. Using essential oils and herbs. I could go on and on.
But the key here isn’t to get overwhelmed. It’s about implementing a couple of these things at a time. Slowly but surely creating a life lived well and healthier. We are by no means perfect, we had cookies for dessert tonight. However, we try to be mindful and create healthy habits
One thing we do everyday is take our elderberry and vitamins. I had a few people ask about making the elderberry syrup into gummies and I’m so glad they brought this up! I hadn’t made gummies in years. We switched over to organic fruit strips instead of fruit snacks a while ago, so it was fun to make some. I had my helper girl as my assistant and a batch of elderberry syrup to get going!
Start with 1/2 cup of Elderberry in a sauce pan over low heat.
Add in 2 TBS of apple cider vinegar. Stir.
I like to use Braggs apple cider vinegar, its such high quality and has “The Mother”. Think gut health. It’s seriously good for so many things!
Next add in your 2 TBS gelatin. Stir immediately. Keep stirring until gelatin is incorporated.
I use Great Lakes Gelatin. It’s a high quality gelatin known for its benefits to our joints, bones, skin, and digestive system.
Once the gelatin is incorporated remove from heat and allow to cool for just a minute. Add in about 2 tsp of honey and stir.
Next pour the elderberry mixture into your silicon mold. A pan will also work just fine. You can just cut the gummies into squares if using a pan.
I try to push the excess mixture into a mold so I waste as little of my gummy gold as possible. What didn’t fit into the mold I made another small pan that are cut into small squares.
Place the mold or pan in the refrigerator until set-this won’t take long! Then you can pop them out of the mold and store in a glass container for snacking. For this size of gummy I give the kids 2-3 for the daily dose of elderberry.
They didn’t last long around here. In fact, I think I’ll have to make some more tomorrow!
Enjoy! Thanks for stopping by!
